I don't get anything other than the black screen with the tiny stars. When I switch the database when loading to the Katrina-NOAA or the Katrina-ImageAmerica I get a blurry globe to appear in the screen. If I let it load the Primary Database I get nothing but a black screen with those tiny stars. I had been using GE Version 4 for plenty of time before I got to this dilemma. The changes I recently made were I removed Norton Antivirus since the subscription was about ot expire and I am happier using Alwil's Avast and I upgraded my Internet Explorer to version 7. The problem must be with one of those 2 issues....I goess. Any ideas anyone???
Mhdecker, if ou have a dual-core AMD processor, see the posts before yours. I had the same problem and it was fixed with the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer and the processor affinity fix (one, the other, or both).

Has there been any type of permanent solution found yet? I love GE, but honestly I'm getting tired of having to manually set Affinity each time I load it (which is quite frequently).
I personally wouldn't even care if there was some way I could configure the PIF (oh geez are they even called *that* anymore?) to set the affinity upon load.
Star field but no globe, muddy brown screen if you zoom in - I've been struggling with this for a week and I've just fixed it by disabling "Privacy service" in my McAfee security program
