Hi,

I passed Forss wind farm late last year and it now has 6 turbines. GE doesn't have hi-res imagery of the area but I do have a picture of the main information sign that has a small map... http://www.flickr.com/photos/mongolblues/1468462101/

Hi, Interesting overlay, I did some visualisations for the Lewis Wind Farm. I hadn't come across your layer. Although the sites seem to be ~200m east of your positions, I did get the data from Amec the developers and added some scaled turbines models in for the furthest north ones.

I had been experimenting with the 3D models as well!
here

I'm not going to bother manually adding a model to every turbine I've plotted but I was going to see if there was a way to export the turbine kml folders and do some clever search and replace routine to create a kml which would plot a 3D model at the same coordinates.

I have found some really good 3D models in the Sketchup gallery but coudn't really see how to isolate them to do things like alter their size or include them in kml.

As far as the positioning is concerned I got them from a blowup of a rather small gif of the turbine positions and there may well be an error here - either from not knowing the centre of the icon used on that map or a positioning error of the overlay on GE.

If yours are more accurate then would you mind if I copied them into my placemark?

Cheers

Stuart

Ironically enough this windfarm was today rejected by the Scottish Government, so I'll not worry too much about 200m.

As my website has changed, any Network Links to the website version of this placemark will need to be changed to match (the first post has been edited to suit). Also, if this placemark has been saved into Myplaces, the icons will be broken, so you will need to redownload, and preferably make this a Network Link.

Any Network Links to the BBS version of the placemark should be fine!

I'm still updating like crazy at the moment as I discover new sources of information and realise that none of the sources I have found so far have been complete.

Also, if anyone knows of an easy, programmatical way to convert my individual turbine placemarks into Sketchup 3D turbine models I'd love to know. There are simply too many to go through them all individually!

Just wanted to mention that the placemarkers aren't showing up on the google maps version of this listing. Is it just me?

No I can't get them to work either. I didn't really have Google Maps in mind when creating this placemark, there are really far too many points. Also I use non-standard icons, and maybe the Maps API only uses Google icons.

Best use GE!!!

I am an American High School science teacher and I received a grant for my proposal to study wind energy in Scotland. I need to know which wind farms would be the best to view in the southern uplands and how to find directions. I will be in Scotland June 13 to the 30th. I tried to load kmz and could not. Any suggestions?
