An English professor used this 1562 map from
Library of Congress Maps web site in a class, though she didn't use Google Earth. I made a quick KMZ out of it, to see if she'd like to use that in the future.
The cartographer is Diego Gutirrez and the description says "Americae sive qvartae orbis partis nova et exactissima descriptio / avtore Diego Gvtiero Philippi Regis Hisp. etc. Cosmographo ; Hiero. [deleted] excvde 1562 ; Hieronymus [deleted] excude cum gratia et priuilegio 1562."
