Here are all of the major ski areas in the US and many large areas in France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and some in South America, and Canada with easy access to up to date snow conditions and information for each area.

************************************************************************************
I've also added some good scuba diving shore dives in New England.

Click "View in Google Earth" unless you have a dial up connection.

Fly to a ski area to note how it really looks, it's proximity to other areas and towns, etc. Click on the place mark and in the window that opens will be a link shown by underlined words. If you then click on this link it will open the associated web address in your browser. The links are to information such as; updated ski conditions for the specific area and for every ski area in that state, trail maps, photo galleries, and further links to more information on the web about that area.

This is a great download to use if you are thinking of taking a ski vacation or have any interest in ski areas.

You can use the keyboard keys to control the view. It makes for a much more interesting look at the areas. You do this by descending to about 8 thousand feet (You will learn how much to descend after a couple of tries) then shift+down arrow. This will bring your perspective to a horizontal view of the surface of the earth.

If the mountains do not appear to be elevated in your view then you need to put a check mark in the "terrain" layer on the lower left panel of your Google Earth application.

Then use the arrow keys to move and shift+left or right to turn. Press the "u" key if you want to go back to the "normal" view. Enjoy!

If you find a placemark that is in need of some major adjusting or a significant ski area that I missed let me know.

Hi

Nice first post! I only want to add this post about Cerro Catedral, Bariloche, Argentina. To be considered next July.
See you around..

I don't know where the maps in Google Earth link came from and it didn't work at my computer. So I suggest that if you have a new computer (pretty fast ie over 1ghz cpu) and a broad band connection (DSL, Cable, T1...) you should download the first placemark link and ignore the second one that says "view in google earth maps".

Your Timberline place marker on Mt Hood is a bit too far east. Your marker is actually on the Heather Canyon old school runout to the Hood River Meadows base area at Mt Hood Meadows. Just an FYI, there are lots of misplaced markers all over Hood.

Thanks for writing. I see that My Timberline Mark is actually closer to Mt Hood Meadows So I added the Meadows and moved the Timberline marker to where it should be.

I have been to Timberline but I have not been anywhere else in Oregon or Washington and it is a bit tough to find the areas out there so if you have any other suggestions go ahead and make them and I'll see what I can do.

Hey,
I can use all the feedback I can get about this site. I have spent many hours on it to make sure everything is accurate, useful, and easy to use and I have no idea why more people don't find it as good a resource as I do but then maybe I am a bit biased since I created the file.

-Thanks,

Will

It has 686 downloads. If you read other posts, you will realize it has attracted people. Maybe some explanatory texts and pictures may help people more (all placemarks in a folder have the same text).

And can you please remove the "Places" folders and placemarks like "Sightseeing" and "default"? They are duplicating the layers and messing your work. I guess you are attaching your whole "Places" folder but one should rather create a new folder and organize the work within that folder which is to be attached to the forum.

Thanks and keep up

Ok thanks,

I removed some stuff which was clogging it up and tried to streamline the entire file. I hope this helps.

PS
Summertime Diving Information has been removed since some file bloating seems to be occuring

Google has added many new features this summer. Vermont and most of Colorado are now higher resolution.

Update your whole Google Earth version and then you will be able to check out the "Sky" part. There is also a "Giga Pixel" layer which lets the user fly into the picture which is cool.
