Yes, I've been there, it's indoors, about 4 miles south of your placemark.
The BB there a special version with a remote control drone that seperates from the tail.

Bruce,
How long ago were you there?
I went to a museum in the early 199o's that
was south of where I put the Place Mark.
They had an A-12 on the floor.

I was there in about '99 or 2000. You can see the planes on GE. eg, Air Force One. And the Red Barn (Boeing's birthplace) is placemarked on the Community layers.

There is another one (the two seater version) on display at the USS Alabama Memorial Park in Mobile AL. It is parked outside about 80% of the time these days, so if they ever update the coverage of Mobile you may get lucky on this one as well. THe next time I'm there I'll get the registration number for you.

SR-71A #17962 - Flyable in storage. To be put on display at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, England.

OOPS!!! ( Old data)
Hay a plane that can be in 2 places at once. That is fast for a old aircraft.

Hi Grimmie,

According to this link:-
http://www.habu.org/sr-71/17962a.html
(Which I consider the blackbird bible)

Confirms that 17962 now in Duxford came from Palmdale in April 2001, but that plane you placemarked is 25 Miles North East of Palmdale.

I remember now that my friend esterrett has actually already identified this bird as 17955 using these photos taken in 2004 http://www.sr-71.org/photogallery/blackbird/17955/17955-2004-06.htm
Check out the B52 in the background as a reference.

Here are some more photos of 61-7955 in her final home.
http://www.habu.org/sr-71/17955c.html

Thanks for the heads up, I have updated my collection of placemarks to include this bird as being identified as 61-7955.

Atlantis

P.s. The display @ Duxford museum is under a roof.

Now we can actually see it, the satellite imagery really shows the original silvery color of this one up.

Two of these are gone after the most recent database update:
2 Blackbirds 61-7962 & 61-7980

There is also one in a different place at Edwards AFB now (perhaps one of the two listed above?) I've attached a pointer to the newly placed one.

Here is Blackbird 61-7981. It is located at the Hill AFB Museum in Utah. All the info about it is attached to the placemark. Enjoy!
