The question of what this strange looking triangle is was posed on a fairly popular website lately. Someone who lives in Australia who lives in the area was curious enough to go take a look.

Here's what he said...

Dec. 18, 2007 email from Australian resident: (Triangle is) in an area I was fairly familiar with. The astronomy group I am in goes near there for star gazing as there is no light pollution. I made a trip up to investigate the Google earth mystery on Saturday, December 15, 2007. I 'interpolated' its position onto a map and we drove up. It is a large antenna and appears to be a component of the huge wind farm immediately adjacent to it. The wind farm supplies 80 megawatts of power for Perth and is remote-controlled from Perth power company that operates the wind farm. I think the very high antenna transmits sensor and instrumentation data as well as receiving the control signals from the Perth control centre. It is a very tall antenna with 3 sets of guy wires in a triangle formation. The growth and bushes are most likely cleared out of the antenna area. (We couldn't get close enough to see the base because the roads were blocked with gates and it is rolling hills). The place is fenced and the gates are locked. There are no warning signs, no 'use of deadly force' signs, nor is there any 'keep out' signs. The locked gates are there to keep the vandals and curiosity seekers out.

This is a link to their homepage. For now, the article is there. I'm not sure what happens with articles as they are replaced, but I'm sure they're archived. If you want to look at the original I suggest Googling a portion of the paragraph above.

Much as I would like this to be a UFO there are a couple of things that strongly indicate otherwise. Most importantly the livestock trails that lead to a watering/ feeding area to the Northeast show that the animals have been traveling around this area long enough to create discernable trails.

Secondly there appears to be a very long shadow from the center of the triangular pattern in a direction consistent with the shadow direction of the closest structures within the same photo server identified at the lower center of the Google Earth screen. It is possible the reason for the triangle shape is the location of guy wires required for such antenna structure. A minimal fenced area to isolate the wires and antenna from livestock scratching themselves on it would also make sense. There is no shadow of any kind cast which is also an indicator that there is no elevation th this triangle.

The most anomalous item for me is the bright lighted areas that appear to be reflective or fire. A physical ground confirmation is the best assurance.

Decades ago I served in U.S. Naval Air Intelligence and aerial photo interpretation/ analysis was one of my primary duties.

The search for UFOs and documentation is very important and I'm glad people are taking the time and making the effort to discover and report them.

If you know of any other such objects on Google Earth (like the 50 mile Greenland object) I would appreciate knowing it.

Note:
As an addendum to to my earlier observations above I should mention I realized shortly ater my posting what the lighted areas were. Having grown up in a rural area in an agricultural environment it dawned on me they were fires, This is what farmers do to burn off weeds. The areas lighted appear to be where the guy wires from the antenna enter the ground is where the livestock and mowing can't get to. I'm certain they're just burning off the weeds.

This is a normal 'earthly' radio comms site, although it does raise some questions - see below..
The 100m or so tower has six, guy wire anchor points in the ground. Hence the six white marks around the perimeter of the tower. Three closer anchor points for the lower guys and three for the top guys.

The site is on the top of a small hill, actually one of the highest around @ 216m AGL (usual practice for any wide area, VHF or UHF comms site). Using radio coverage prediction software, tells me that the site is located to cover a large stretch of the Brand Highway (Highway one). In fact on VHF, this site would cover over 100Km of this major highway. There are no associated buildings nearby so, I'm guessing this is a solar powered VHF or UHF PMR site rather than FM broadcast etc. The repeater and power supply is probably located in a 1m square cabinet at the base of the tower. The resolution on these pictures is pretty woeful, so it can't show details like this.
The question I alluded to at the start relates to the status and or operator of this facility. The Australian Communications and Media Authority have no record of a comms site at this location and Defense sites are usually listed.
So, this site has either been decommissioned (tower still stands), or the site is not licenced, or it is part of some kind of secret UFO monitoring/communication network (sorry, had to get that one in there !!).
