Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a tour that shows a natural (or un-natural) feature on the earth as a stunning GE flyover.

Your entry must be playable as a tour and should show the area you choose with as much *wow* as possible.

The winner will receive a big thumbs-up - so show us what our world has got!

My entry here is a flythrough of the Grand Canyon in the USA. Best played with a 3-4 second tour pause at slow speed.

That is a cool idea! I couldn't resist making this. You'll need to adjust your speed, but it should be fun to watch...

I've created a "sobriety-impared", or random, path creator using an MS-Excel spreadsheet and a link to a website tool to create the KML file. The spreadsheet is a simplified version of what I posted here.

To use the spreadsheet, place the maximum distance per leg, into cell A8. The default is 1Km.

In cells B8 and C8, place the initial Latitude and Longitude values respectively in decimal degrees, i.e., DD.dddddd format. Press F9 to regenerate points, as desired. The default location is Mount St Helens.

Select and copy the contents from cells B8 to C33 to the Windows clipboard. (The C33 will change, if you extend the random path.)

Click on the link in cell A9 then paste the clipboard contents into the coordinates window, click "a path" (or "some placemarks"), then click "Go".

Very shortly you'll be prompted to click "right here". Doing so will start Google Earth displaying your random tour.

Oh, by the way. If you chose "a path" you'll have to select the "autopath" manually then click the play button.

Awesome! That's quite an amazing piece of work.

I tried it with the grand canyon (I cant resist it!) and got the attached path (for the benefit of those without excel). It looks better than i expected!

Might be handy to have the complete thing on a web site (mind if i make one for my site?).

You may do with it (the spreadsheet) as you wish. You might want to cross-check with the author of the "KML Generator v0.1" website link, "ink_polaroid". I couldn't easily have done this without the website.

I tried your Grand Canyon flyover tour and really like it. You may be on to something here... ...It's interesting to see how Google Earth trys to follow the terrain. My PC "bounces" over the rough stuff.

Cool - I've adapted it and popped a web based version on my site: http://www.googletouring.com/random.php

And I'll expand the list of initial locations soon. Great concept I must say

I really like the website! I'd only suggest that the "Opacity" of the line be either selectable as a percentage, or On/Off, or just plain Off. The red line is a slight distraction to me.

Otherwise, WAY Cool!

Well I accepted this challenge to learn how to create a flyover. So I combined this challenge with one of my favorites sports, F1 racing.

The attached fly-over is of the track where the next race in the 2005 schedule will be held.

Let me know what you think.
