Hey,

Endurance will be spending a few days in an African Country for a few days. Sorry I cant reveal where she is as she is still an active war ship. But the crew will be assisting rebuilding a roof on a nursery. You can check some good pictures my brother took at http://www.flickr.com/photos/95205697@N00

Thanks

Oh I forgot when Endurance returns to Portsmouth there will be a ceremony where she will be awarded the freedom of the city. If you are in the UK you can get tickets but I will keep you in touch with the event.

Thanks,

SuperOverlay of the South Shetland and South Orkney Islands added.

1908 Hydrographic Office Map.

I've been working on this one for a few months. I had to code everything manually since I don't have an application to speed things along. It has been a good lesson in perseverance since the SuperOverlay example in Google's KML2.1 documentation had my mind bolloxed for weeks.

I referenced the map's lines of long/lat to GE's gridlines as best I could. It aligns very well east/west but lines of latitude get increasingly out of place moving from north to south. The map visibility is set to 0 when the .KMZ file first opens so open the 'Overlays' Folder to enable it. It looks best with all the other placemarks turned off. It is interesting to note that some features are plotted on this map significantly off from their true positions while others are nearly spot on.

Enjoy

As you can see pictures below:

http://www.internationaldove.com/gallery/misc

The crew worked on a orphanage, and is on her way back to Portsmouth to receive the Freedom of Portsmouth.

If you are interested and in the UK, HMS Endurance will be docking tomorrow back in Portsmouth with the end of her Deployment....

Welcome home Endurance!

Final Revision

Thanks to everyone at the Google Earth Community who took the time to answer my stupid technical questions. I could not even zip a kml file or make a working Network Link when I started this project last year. Also, I owe special thanks to Endurance's Public Outreach Programme, Captain Nick Lambert, Navigating Officer Lee Vessey, and Dr. Anna Nelson of the British Antarctic Survey for their assistance in this project.

HMS Endurance is in dry dock and almost ready to begin her 2007-2008 season. I'll post this season's kml when she has been underway for a few days; until then, here are a few photos of Endurance below the waterline. Note the icebreaking knife at her keel and the protective shroud of her propeller.
