Just an update, I added the campaign against the Ismaili castles and Baghdad. I have started referencing the information in the placemarks with a weblink and using images as well. I'm going to backtrack later and fix up any other problems with my older placemarks and reference them as well.

Why do you mark your "mongol empire" on Chang'an? As far as I know, the city of Chang'an was never a part of mongol empire. It had already been destroyed and named "fengyuan" when the mongols occupied it. So, this is an error. Hope you change it soon.

Hi Mirmillo,

Mongol Empire:
Mongol Invasion of Central Asia:( link )

It would be the invasion and utter destruction and complete devastation of the Khwarezmid Empire which would earn the Mongols the name for bloodthirsty ferocity that would mark the remainder of their campaigns. In this brief war, lasting less than two years, not only was a huge empire destroyed utterly, but Genghis Khan introduced the world to tactics that would not be seen again until the Germans used them so well in World War II - indirect attack, and complete and utter terror and slaughter of populations wholesale as weapons of war.(quoted from above link.-added reference there-Nicolle, David. The Mongol Warlords.)

When the city of Urgench was assaulted and finally brought to its heels:As usual, the artisans were sent back to Mongolia, the young women and children were given to the Mongol soldiers as slaves, and the rest of the population was massacred. The Persian scholar Juvayni states that 50,000 Mongol soldiers were given the task of executing twenty-four Urgench citizens each, which would mean that 1.2 million people were killed. While this is almost certainly exaggeration, the sacking of Urgench is considered one of the bloodiest massacres in human history. reference in the above link: Saunders, J.J. The History of the Mongol Conquests

Sorry Mirmillo but what you have posted in Beijing under the title of "Zhongdu" is not correct...

"Zhongdu", which means "the Middle Capital", was the name of Beijing during Jin Dynasty (1115~1234). And Beijing was called "Dadu" ("the Great Capital") rather than "Zhongdu" during the Chinese Yuan Dynasty (1271~1368, also known as Mongol Period).
And you located the post in today's Xuanwu District of Beijing. This location is not correct for neither "Zhongdu" in Jin Dynasty nor "Dadu" in Yuan Dynasty (Mongol Period). Because if you were about to say "Dadu" then that area was not even formed in Yuan Dynasty. And if you were trying to mention "Zhongdu" in Jin Dynasty then you should put the sign at the centre of the southernwest part of the 2nd Ring Road of Beijing, for that place was where the central palace of Jin Empire was.

Please correct the mistakes... Thanks.

Thanks for the input guys, I fixed the errors you stated, deleted the Chang'an placemark (thanks for the correction changanrise) and repositioned Zhongdu, (Cui_Jinze, if its still in the wrong place please let me know).

I also added some information on the campaigns against the Song and color coded each different campaign to make them easier to distinguish.

I love what you have done with the Mongol Empire and Google Earth!

I am a high school history teacher who would like to use this technique in a class project. Do you have any tutorials that can bring me up to speed so that I may teach my students how to do what you have done?
