Mongol Empire

This is a presentation of the Mongol Empire during the Middle Ages from its beginning and expansion throughout the world. Its a work in progress as I add to it whenever I can. I've divided this presentation into four folders:

Khanates - Polygons of the general area controlled by the Mongol Khanates after the empire divided.

Campaigns - A section with all the military campaigns performed by the Mongols divided up by dates. Each section has likely paths taken by the armies and locations of major battles. Each campaign folder also contains a polygon map of the increasing expansion of the empire if played in order.

Cities and Sites - The locations and names of the Middle Age cities, castles and sites. Further information is provided sometimes on these placemarks involving sieges or stories.

Empires - A general polygon display of the estimated locations of the empires and kingdoms throughout the world during the Mongol conquests.

More campaigns will be updated and completed in the future.

I'm also working on referencing everything properly whenever I get the time.

Please let me know if you see anything out of place, in the wrong location or information that should be added. Please enjoy!

This is a fantastic and fascinating effort! Thank you! I am still working my way through your wealth of detail - five stars from me for sure

I've updated some more information, mainly on Russia. Still lots of work to do. I'm having a lot of trouble with the Eastern empires and cities, so few sources in English on the net and different names and translations for old and new locations. If anyone else who knows and has interest in the Mongol Empire could contribute to this project it'd be greatly appreciated. I've also added the path of Subotai and Jebe's reconnaissance mission into Russia, more updates to come.

Hi, it certainly is an interesting presentation You've obviously done a lot research on it, and it's very informative.

However, if you update the file, please edit your original post to replace the original version, in the preview screen you can upload a new version which will replace the old one. This avoids duplicate placemarks in GE. You can add text either in the original post or in a new reply to explain your changes. If you do this now, you can delete the second file by editing the post.

Thanks

I've updated the first stage of the invasion of the Khwarezmian Empire, going to finish it and add details later describing the events in more detail. The pincer attack Genghis Khan employed on Samarkand was incredible for its time, a perfectly coordinated advance from north, south, east and west to box in the city. The more I research the Mongol tactics the more amazed I get.

Just another update, working on Europe and trying to get the location of the kingdoms right the best I can. Also added the invasion of Europe and Russia campaign.

Thank you for the post, I've corrected my mistake with the location of Fancheng. I haven't had much time to work on this project though I'll upload what I've done in the past month. I've added more campaigns, mostly unfinished at the moment and tried to tidy up the locations of kingdoms and empires. Please ignore some untidy areas, still working out from sources where everything should be.

Really excellent work, Mirmillo, this is a keeper. I read John Man's "Genghis Khan: LIfe, Death and Resurrection" last year and was sorely tempted to add to the limited data about the Mongols on GE, but you've far surpassed anything I could have done. Thanks a lot.
