A Canada land Inventory Agriculture Capability Map superimposed on Google. The actual shaded relief map was produced by Glenn Lelyk, Agriculture Canada in Winnipeg. The data at the origin of the map is based on the Canada land Inventory, the most comprehensive land resource inventory carried out in Canada.
The dark green areas are the most productive areas, in the CLI class 1 and 2 lands. The light yellow and orange areas are class 5 and 6 lands. Most of these are in the former delta of the Assiniboine River, which emptied in Glacial Lake Agassiz. The former beach lines (about 8000 years before present) are clearly visible dissecting diagonally the right half of the image.

The Canada land Inventory is one of the largest digital sources of information in Canada providing a multi-disciplinary source of information for most of the settled portion , an area of approximately 2.5 million km2. The land capability maps provide information on the suitability for forestry, agriculture, wildlife (waterfowl and ungulates) recreation and in some areas sport fish. The CLI produced over 15�000 capability maps during its life span. The CLI also created the world�s first operational geographic information system (CGIS).
