Apparently the last clue made it easy (however), because the answers came in while I was still searching for the hunderds of bridges that once used to be the longest ...

Because I have the shot now, I join at the end of the queue:

I have also been searching for lots of bridges in Europe and there is some confusion in my mind about the longest bridge(s) in Europe in 1965. Please have a look at following links (all of which are from answers.com);

1. Storstrm Bridge (Denmark) is 3199 metres long and 9 metres wide. The longest span is 136 metres, and the maximum clearance to the sea is 26 metres. Storstrm Bridge was opened by King Christian X on September 26, 1937.

2. The Zeeland Bridge (Netherlands) was built between 1963 and 1965. It has a total length of 5,022 meters, and consists of 48 spans of 95 meters, 2 spans of 72.5 meters and a movable bridge with a width of 40 meters

3. Bridge in Question <<< Saratov Bridge across the Volga River in Saratov, Russia was the longest bridge in Europe upon its inauguration in 1965. Its length is 2803,7 meters. >>>

In view of links 1 & 2 above, the information at link 3 needs to be verified. I have a slow connection these days so perhaps you may also like to check at your end.

Thanks

Maybe this is another example of not taking whats written in Wiki at face value .

i got the info from this Wiki page .

However --Congrats all round to those who located the bridge
