N.B. This KML shows only a subset of the types/resolutions available in Google Earth As you browse the earth you will notice some places appear clearer than others.
Currently Google Earth does not have the whole planet in high resolution. Although please bear in mind, more images are being acquired all the time and the database size being increased and updated.
There are many resolutions from many different providers, but here I have put together a placemark file to open which contains information about the main resolutions you will encounter in Google Earth.
Please spend some time looking at the descriptions in the placemarks.

P.S. And for those of you who are/aren't metric/imperial, here are some good guidelines, from a trusty Google Earth member

3 inch is 7.62 centimeters
6 inch = 15.24 centimeters
12 inch = 30.48 centimeters
50 feet is about 15 meters
100-150 feet is about 30 to 45 meters
300 feet is about 91 meters
500 feet is about 152 meters.
1,000 feet = is about 304.8 meters
70 Miles is about 112 kilometers
20,000 feet is about 6,096 meters
