Updated 08/18/2007 - Added Model Spaghetti Plots for comparison vs NHC Official guidance.

Updated 08/18/2007 - Added Discussion History per storm for verification purposes. No changes needed by users. You can animate this to see how NHC forecasts have changed over time.

Updated 08/17/2007 - Added Puerto Rico Long Range Reflectivity (N0Z) Radar for Dean. No changes needed by users.

Updated 08/16/2007 - Added a couple more Buoys in and around Dean's expected path. Some of these buoys are those that were offline or not deployed at all last season. No changes needed by users.

Updated 08/12/2007 - Added GOES Visible & IR Imagery. These are set up as WMS's, so you just fly around and the images will update automatically. Changed the radar source...AGAIN!. This season has been especially frustrating with data sources going down...makes for a lot of work for me. Reorganized the data so that the legends don't get all fubared. Will add spaghetti models back very soon.

Updated 07/27/2007 - Changed the source of the Lightning Data to Astrogenic / StrikeStarUS . Big thanks to the folks at Astrogenic for their help.

Updated 07/17/2007 - Put the old source of radar images back in as a secondary for times when the primary site inexplicably doesn't update with new images (thanks NOAA). This failover happens automatically, so when the primary source comes back up, the better images will reappear with no intervention.

Updated 07/14/2007 - Changed the source of the radar data. Data has less noise in it now. Also now pack the radar images into the KMZ so that animations are MUCH MUCH smoother (albeit with more damage to my bandwidth). We'll see how that goes. This update should be transparent...no action on users part required.

Updated 06/02/2007 - Added NHC Discussions and forecast tracks for both Atlantic and EPacific storms. You can currently see Tropical Storm Barbara and Tropical Depression Barry in the link. Also changed the other layers that were already there to expose the legend so that you can turn it off whenever the nasty ScreenOverlay bug attacks. I really hope that the Google folks are looking at that because it's annoying as hell. See this discussion for information on that bug.

Updated 05/17/2007 - Added Lightning Strike data. I noticed a problem with the new version of GoogleEarth client where the Lightning legend all of the sudden resizes itself...only workaround I have right now is to restart GoogleEarth. See screenshot at end of this post.

Updated 05/08/2007 - Requests to the load balancer from my previous update were being cached via my SquidCache in my router. This resulted in some bad images for you guys I'm sure. I've fixed that by changing the Cache policy of the request to always pull a fresh copy from the load balancer.

Updated 05/06/2007 - Changed CONUS Radar to use NOAA's load balancer instead of a single server. The single server I was using had gone down a few times recently. This should also improve performance under times of heavy load.

Updated 05/02/2007 - Added a couple new buoys per this info . Also added proper icons for all buoys.

Updated 04/16/2007 - Added about 150 more buoys primarily up the East Coast (Chesapeake Bay, New England, Nova Scotia).

Updated 04/15/2007 - Link now includes SST animation, CONUS Radar animation, and buoy data. Storm models and analytical overlays coming soon. Also I made a little screencast for how best to use it:

Ok Folks,

In anticipation of the coming Atlantic Hurricane season, I'm revamping (redoing really) my old TropicalWatch Network link. I need to be able to gauge the necessary bandwidth requirements etc., so I'm going to release it piecemeal starting with a new SST layer. This layer is animated, updated in near real time, and will change over the coming days/weeks along with the rest of the new Network link. It is kinda cool to watch the polar ice advance/retreat and the currents like the Gulf Stream advance and meander around. I've also added a 26C contour line so that we can more easily see areas of highest development potential. I'll add a legend etc. as I write the code, but I figured feedback little by little is easier for my 1 man team to digest.

As Always, use the latest GE Client. Also, I've found that changing the time slider options to "Restrict time to currently selected folder" works best when playing the animation or manually moving the slider. The time delta on the time slider should also be no more than 1day or 24 hrs. Enjoy.

I like the SST time animation Paul. It wll definitely be interesting using this to watch how water temperatures effect the formation of tropical storms. And, I look forward to your new TropicWatch network link(s).

Paul, it would be nice if you added a legend either in the placemark description or as a screenoverlay. Even if the colors are intuitive, it helps to know what temperature they represent.

Buoy data added. Some buoys may not show good data, but I haven't gone through the list to check for validity or new data... I just wanted to get it in first.

Re-Download the original file in the first post.

Added a couple more *new* Caribbean buoys, and added proper icons for all the buoys.
