I've created a kmz file (attached) that is global in coverage and includes seafloor age, >M6 earthquakes 1986-2005 (classified by depth), active volcanoes, and topography/bathymetry. I use these data to teach plate tectonics; students interpret and map plate boundaries based on the data provided.

A lot of this info is in GE already and could probably be improved upon...any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I agree Simon, this is great. When I was at school in 19 [cough] [cough] this is the one subject I loved, Geology and Plate tectonics.

Great stuff.

Thanks.

Got to be a Five from me

This is to good a post to leave in tools. I'm moving it to N&G(Mod).

Excellent work. You are right the volcanoes and equakes can already be found in GE. However, they do not all show always until you zoom in thus this provides a nice reference of half the globe at a time. The ocean ages is what I like best. The topography-bathymetry layer does not add anything for me. I think the rest of the overlays look better without it. Thanks, I use GE almost every class period, and now I have an ocean age diagram to use.

The Ledge,

While this posting is useful, I believe it should be returned to the Tools forum, which is not scraped.

---- The grid of depth placemarks should not be in a scraped forum, because they do not come with the legend, so they become an unitelligible grid of worldwide markers with cryptic names

---- The volcanos and earthquake placemarks are duplicative of the equivalent Google layers, but not as complete.

---- The global image for topography is not as good nor as attractive as are Google's NASA images.

Bottom Line: I suggest you return it to the non-scraped Tools forum.
