I can see that I have stayed out of this forum far too long. Nice additions to the original post. It seems like the original poster hasn't been around since mid-August. When Google Mars morphs to a Google Earth version, it looks like the resolution will improve even more.

This looks like a great idea, but it's not working completely on my machine.

I can see the longitude and latitude grid, and placemarks for geographic features and craft landing sites. What I can't see is the actual surface of the planet. (Yes, I do have the "Mars Map" layer checked.)

I've double-checked my settings and searched the help pages, but I've had no luck. I'm using GE v. 4.0 for the Mac.

I've used NASAs Big Blue Marble overlay without a problem.

Any suggestions?

BTW there is seem to be some problems with the grid or the placemark in the mirror of the coordinates from the article...

We've added your extremely nice geography and landing sites overlays to our own high res overlays on our site. Please let us know if you'd like your own authoring information added to the overlays, would like them to be modifed, or would like them removed from our site.

And, thank you!

To all explorers,

In the Sahara is a great area covered with structures who have a great resemblence with the so called ``Clarke Trees``on Mars. ( called after the SF writer Arthur C. Clarke, he thinks that these Clarke Trees are a living organism )On mars they are growing ? at the southern hemisfere. Also the sizes are about the same as their twin-trees on Earth.

To All,

This is a overlay of the Gusev crater on Mars. In this crater is the MER Spirit( Mars Exploration Rover ) doing research and discoveries. Opportunity, the twin of Sprit is on the Meridiani plain, about the other site of Mars.

Those images are from my site. If you want to see full resolution views, additional views of Gusev's horizon, and to read a summary of the latest rover findings, check out my site in it's entirety.

Cheers,
Aldo.

To All,

The image in the overlay is a part of the Valles Marineris canyon system on Mars. The complete canyon system ( approx. 4000 km )would almost overlay the entire U.S.A. from east to west, when you want to make a tour trough the canyon in birdseye view, click on the following link ( 7 Mb );

Or make a choice from this NASA webpage;

A nice picture of the canyon,
