Same issue here... GE will claim Quote:
Google Earth detected an error while trying to authenticate Please check the following: yadaydada nonsense See answer 20717
error code 30
I then used packetyzer to get to the real problem, and it turns out that google returns a HTTP Error 304 Forbidden when trying to log in, and some more drivel on why it happens, though you never see that in GE.
The full text of the error is:
Quote:
We're sorry... but we can't process your request right now. A computer virus or spyware application is sending us automated requests, and it appears that your computer or network has been infected.
We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, you might want to run a a href="http://www.download.com/Antivirus/3150-2239-0.html"> virus checker or href="http://www.download.com/sort/3150-8022-0-1-4.html"spyware remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other spurious software. We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google.
Well, gee, what does that mean? Anything more specific? "There's something bad happening on the Internet, so we currently don't like you" would be my interpretation. I have a virus-scanner thank you, no adware due to Firefox and Spybot S&D. But of course I cannot vouch for any of the 5000+ other users that are using the same internet access. So something bad is happening on the internet, okay. The sky is blue, right?
Let's hope this nonsense is over soon.
Cheers, -dan

... And it's the same for me as well.
I lost access 24 hours ago. The process stops during GE "Initialization".
I also checked everything (Firewall, IE, etc.) and applied all the advices given in the support page, but it still doesn't work.
I've got two computers, but the problem is the same on both. So I'm sure the problem comes from the connection (which is the same for both computers), it may be related to this story of "port 80", but I don't understand what should be done.
And the strangest thing is that everything was OK until yesterday...
Well, I sent an email to GE support, but without much hope...

I did that yesterday. Didn't do any good at the time. I am, however, connecting again now.
I think in future, I'll make sure that I don't have google earth running on both my machines at the same time.

Make sure that IE is set to work on line
i.e Open Internet Explorer click File & uncheck Work Off line.
Tried it myself and sure enough Google earth failed to open.

This has just happened to me as well. I have happily been using GoogleEarth and suddenly I get the exact same error message as has been posted. I am using Sygate Personal Firewall - checked it and GoogleEarth is allowed - and I use Webroot Spy Sweeper. Maybe that is somehow the issue, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to configure Spy Sweeper or even to see what it considers spyware.
The question is, where from here? And why can't any of this help stuff be in a form that the lay user can understand, anyway?

This sounds very much like the problem I have as well. GE worked fine for me for about 1 hour yesterday after I first downloaded it (ver 3.0.0529) then it stopped connecting to the server. I turned off my firewall and checked to make sure IE was in "on-line mode" and it still doesn't work.
From what I gather from the various threads here, it seems to be tied to my IP address being restricted due to "spy ware" (as the very *helpful* help file says). However I have run a clean mahine for over 3 years now, (and checked it again this morning) so I know its not that.
As I am using a cable modem with a dynamicly assigned IP, which does not change very often (if at all), even after uplugging the modem; it looks to me like I am kinda of screwed until the either I get a new IP or the GE serve restrction system gets flushed. I guess I could use a proxy server or an anomyizer but it seems like an awful lot of work to get a around a bug in one piece of software.
Does any one know why this is happening? I tried to send a e-mail to to tech support, but as a lowly (non-plus version) user I got an automated repsonse telling to check the above mentioned help file. I was thinking about upgrading to the Plus version before all this trouble began, but at least for me in my situtation it seems like it would be a waist of money if I get it to connect.

Hi, I originally posted this problem a few weeks ago - there has been heaps of replys - mostly from people with the same problem but no fix. I have since tried a few suggestions - like downloading the latest version - only giving me a tidier version of the same error message when i attempt to login. and making sure my Internet explorer is working online..done..no difference - was not working offline in the first place. Now I'm thinking there might be something wrong specifically in my machine and perhaps the other uses here are experienceing the same 'local' problem. I cannot use the mozilla firefox browser at all..I can no longer log into camfrog, a video chat program that did work while google earth was once working. so a few internet based programs are having trouble logging in..hmmm.. must be some setting right? or a virus? one that is impossible to detect no matter what program I use!!
my winmx program hooks in alright connecting and downloading...but then that isn't trying to use the IE settings to connect - it has its own..maybe google earth needs to have independant connection settings so we can adjust it ourselves from wihin the program. These problems arevery annoying..but it seems google is too large a company to care about a few users who cant login . I appreciate the greatness of this software - otherwise I wouldn't bother trying to solve my problems..but what good is it if we can't use it anymore?

Forget google earth, Try this go to maps.google.com in your browser and click on the satellite button and tell us if anything is showing up in your browser. One more thing you might want to try is delete your hosts file. Search your hard drive for a file called hosts no extension if found just delete it. It a favorite high jack spot for spyware. It rewrites that file so your DNS lookups are hijacked. It's a useful file but if it's been hijacked it useless so delete it. It not necessary for windows to work so don't worry about deleting it. It's just a txt file really. It's in this folder: c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc This post
