Flax Pond is a tidal marsh on Long Island that is an important site of environmental research and education.

The Friends of Flax Pond, a community-based group, organizes an annual lecture series. Each year, faculty of Stony Brook University collaborate with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Friends of Flax Pond to conduct the Flax Pond Summer Institute that engages students and the general public in research activities on marsh environments, blue and ribbed mussels, and horseshoe crabs.
