Hi Jennifer,
I posted a reply earlier, but it didn't reach the forum for some reason. I'm a fan of your work (as you know), I've visited your site several times and I'm increasingly impressed by the quality of your work. Part of the reason is that I can connect with your choice of subjects. Like you I've gradually eliminated the horizon from my paintings and I love water on rocks, rock pools, that sort of thing. I have a direct connection with clear cutting forests, illegal logging and (the alternative) sustainable forestry. I work for the largest user of hardwood timber in the Netherlands: the Dutch Government. Reducing the environmental impact of building materials is part of my job (I'm only a part time artist). One result will be a ban on using anything but sustainable timber in government projects in 2010 (roadworks, waterworks, buildings). For this project I went to Africa to see what we could do to to further the cause of sustainable Forest management there, because most of the timber used comes from the Congo basin. The Congo rainforest is still relatively intact. I've been working on a painting to show the devastating effects of logging in the Amazon area. But it turned out to be a very difficult painting: the original Google Earth image just was'nt powerful enough to convey the message. So I'm starting over on that one. I found some images that should get the message across. Last night I finished my Sahara desert painting (the final result if we keep on decapitating the forests of this planet). I should have a photo on my weblog in a few days.
About your other post: great idea to organise an Internet show! And who knows followed by a real exhibition somewhere? Do you have any ideas on how to do this? Much as I like the GE community I guess we would have to turn to other forums (in the art world) to get attention.
Hope this post gets through!
Bye Evert
