Inspired by the
Heritage & Famous Trees topic of Majoska which I've found in the
Ecology collection I've started to collect huge trees in Hungary. I've found a beautifully illustrated book:
________________________-________________
In Magyarorszg Legnagyobb Fi, Gyrgy Psfai describes several tree giants of Hungary.
Gyrgy Psfai even located with GPS and measured several of the tree giants in Hungary. On his website the
www.dendromania.hu he made the GPS and measurement datas publicly available.
About the dataset: Some trees are next to each other and therefore they have the same coordinates. The different trees have separate folders and in the folders there are sub-folders refering to the counties where the tree is situated. Some locations are approximate locations which is indicated in the description. Contact the author of the book at his
Forum page With the aid of Tekgergedans
XLS=>KML program it was a real fun to create the above download.
I hope everybody will enjoy it because the placemarks contains interesting datas about the trees including trunk circuit. Moreover while Google continues to improve the quality of satellite imagery over Hungary
lots of trees are visible:
_______________ Oak of Gemenc
________________________________________ Oaks of Ladi
___________ Aspen of Krtvlyes
_______________________________________ Oak of Tiszakrt
Edit: Thanks syzygy for the image! If you or any other member have more pictures about these trees please post it as a reply
and I will insert it in the file to ilustrate the collection! For more photos about the trees visit
