Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge is situated at the mouth of the Carmans River on Long Island, adjacent to Great South Bay. The parcel contains pine barrens and tidal wetlands as well as freshwater swamps and marshes. The morphology of the tidal wetlands may change in the future due to open marsh water management. An overlay containing a Google Earth screen capture is attached that can be used to make comparisons after the next imagery update.
