Nam Khem, Thailand is the site of most of the events described in the book Wave of Destruction by Erich Krauss, which documents the lives of four families before, during, and after the tsunami of December 26, 2004 (the Boxing Day Tsunami). The Laem Pom neighborhood is the home of Ratree (nicknamed Dang) and Tueng Kongwatmai, members of one of the families featured in the book.
