Probable location of Mas Selamat's escape from Singapore's ISD detention centre at Whitley Road. Based on the sanitised version of MHA's investigation report, Mas Selamat climbed out of the toilet in the Family visitation centre and then climbed on top of an enclosed walkway/staircase and jumped over the fence.
http://www.mha.gov.sg/news_details.aspx?nid=1192This is the only location in the complex where an enclosed walkway abuts the perimeter. The blue-roofed building is consistent with the description of former officer's quarters, originally outside the detention centre proper, which were converted into an office block and then a family visitation centre.
Further to the south can be seen two clusters of detention cells. I don't have a copy of Francis Seow's book "To catch a Tartar", but if I recall correctly, the general location is correct, and he might have mentioned an enclosed exercise yard. The lighter-coloured portions of each building could be open-air but walled exercise yards while the actual cells would be in the darker-roofed parts of the building. This or the adjacent part of the complex can just be seen from the main road when looking up the hill.
