You are rigth Masonicmoron, thats one of the biggest problems Google Earth has. Theres no way to show the real height in "below sea level" areas...

Take a look at this post about a big depression (not economic ) in Argentina...
Google Earth shows "0 meters" where actually are -90 meters...
