I'm a novice to this entire discussion and to GE so please forgive my ignorance. I was directed here when I posted a "geoglyph" I recently discovered while looking at vehicle and foot access into some pictographs in Horseshoe Canyon, Canyonlands National Park.
I downloaded the File Ancient Lines and Geoglyphs and the one I found appears to be one not previously known. It appears to have long perpendicular legs converging at a I have attached the placemark.
I have also worked in oil and gas exploration and development, uranium, oil shale, coal mining, and ranching and rangeland management in nearby western Colorado. I'm not aware of the need to clear vegetation in patterns or with such precision. For these to show as well as they do, I am somewhat surprised by the persistence since many species of pioneering vegetation are found.
Gas pipelines are not as precisely linear and are unnecessary where there is no resource to transport. There are no active gas fields in the vicinity.
One example of modern linear marking of this could be for range fencing in cattle and sheep country. I don't believe this is the case here. As I was passing by a couple of weeks ago on Utah 95, for which Street View is available, I observed at least one of these markings and first thought I was looking down a fence line. As I passed by at 55 MPH, I could see no fence.
