Wildwood State Park consists of 600 acres of woodland and beach on Long Island Sound. Four marked trails provide opportunities for hiking in the woodlands. Oaks and beeches are abundant along the trails.

The beach contains spectacular glacial erratics. The rock types include excellent examples of Stony Creek Granite Gneiss, Branford Gneiss, and New Haven Arkose. Some of the quartzite boulders contain chatter marks, which are internal fractures caused by pressure during episodes of continental glaciation.
