and then, "cmd ipconfig /restore" is required to get reassigned a valid IP address.

The command line parameters (/release, in this case), as far as I know, come after the command (ipconfig). If you want to see if it actually does something, you should usually use "cmd /k" rather than just "cmd" so the window will stay open and you can see the results.

Not that any of this is likely to work. The ipconfig release--restore commands generally are only effective if you have somehow gotten a bad IP address from the DHCP server. If this were the case, he couldnt read the forum messages.
