The southeast Bangkok headquarters of Nation Multimedia, publishers of the daily newspapers Kom Chad Luek (Thai language) and The Nation (English).

The Nation, which long billed itself as "Thailand's Independent Newspaper" but -- knowing where most of its 40,000 copies a day are sold -- now goes by the motto "Make your day with Bangkok's independent newspaper", has remained a champion of democracy in the face of government belligerence.

It's unfortunate the satellite image doesn't do justice to the architecture of the six-storey main building and the 42-storey Nation Tower, both of which feature billowing frontispieces that, rumour has it, were meant to symbolise founding editor (now group publisher) Suthichai Yoon at his typewriter.

The photos are from 1992, when the tower was just being built, along with a condo tower to the right.
