http://www.siloworld.com/COORDINATES/LOCAL.htmI found this list of Latitude-Longitude coordinates for US
Minuteman (LGM-30) LFs. Some of the bases that are on
this list are closed due to the START treaty. However, all
of the FE Warren sites are still active, hot and armed. I checked a few old haunts myself today and indeed, the coordinates are LFs. Someone needs to add the list of
all the Malmstrom AFB and Minot AFB squads - about 200 missiles are missing from this list!
Besides the FE Warren Sites, you should try to look at Ellsworth Delta-01 and Delta-09. Oh-one was a MAF, or Launch Control Facility where the combat crew was stationed. Delta-Nine was one of the ten, unmanned Launchers managed by the squad in Oh-one. D-09 and D-01 are still left intact as base museum exhibits.
Anything you can see at FE Warren, however, is hot. DO NOT drive up to these things, park at the fence and gawk at the surface equipment. This will piss people off and you will
probably set off the O/Z security alarm and get paid a visit by the security crew that patrols the missile field.
The Warren LF's carry Minuteman III (various mods) and Peacekeeper aka MX. Each bird carries between 3 and 10 nuclear-armed RVs. Each RV has between 170 and 335 kiloton yield, or, at least 10x the power of the Hiroshima bomb. The launchers are unmanned and connected to buried alert facilities, which holds the communications hardware necessary to command launch any (or all) birds in the field.
The launchers themselves are on a patch of land about an acre or so. There isnt much above ground to see. But, if you got close, you'd be able to see the hexagonal shape of the launcher door. The launcher door is 100 tons (!) of steel reinforced concrete. These things can take a near direct nuclear hit. If the bird gets two launch votes from two MAFs in the wing, explosives would blow the 100 ton steel door to the side, opening the launch tube to the sky. At that point, the birds' first stage motor would ignite and send it on its way.
See if you can discern the hexagonal launcher door.
