You definitely should be able to share styles, although I think the heading is part of the style so you'll need a style for each direction (perhaps limiting planes to 8 compass points (?)).

I agree that it appears that mixing points and lines in a Placemark ought to work, but I don't believe I've ever seen an example, so... if it hasn't been tested it doesn't work (or is defined not to work ).
