Mt. Mitchell is the highest peak east of the Mississippi River, and stands high above the surrounding area. It is another long ridge of the Appalachians This web page gives a report on one climb. There is a tower on the peak so you can get above the trees for a view - assuming you are not immersed in a cloud.
