This is the most easterly of the remaining abutments of the great Crumlin Viaduct, completed in 1857. Crumlin Viaduct was constructed completely in wrought iron and was a major engineering triumph at the time it was built. Actually, the structure was built in two parts, with a small hill section between - the main section was 200' feet high with seven spans - whilst the smaller section (Kendon Viaduct) had three spans. The total length was 1650'. The viaduct was sadly demolished in 1967, but had a last moment of fame when the end sequence of the motion picture 'Arabesque' was shot on the viaduct.
