All nine of the Atlas E sites of the 566th SMWg. were dismantled in late 1964 and returned to the original owners, and the ranchers gained one very nice barn. The missiles were loaded on C-133's at Cheyenne and sent to Vandenberg AFB, Ca. and Cape Canaveral, Fl. One site was at Kimball, Neb, one East of Greely, Co., one West of Ft. Collins, Co, one just North of Pine Bluffs, Wy., one was just south of Cheyenne on the east side of HW 85 (a house and barns are built over it) the remaning ones were all north of Cheyenne toward Torrinton and Wheatland.
The Tallest object on the site was a UHF antenna, which was one of the first things torn down. All the Atlas E sites were coffin type and not silos. During EWO the overhead door was rolled back, then the D and E
models were raised by crain, then had to be loaded with RP1 then LOX
before they could be launched. If I told you any thing else I'd have to kill you.
PS: The title Active needs to be changed to, "Inactive US ICBM launch facilities,"
