Many years ago, the land called California stretched from the Oregon Border in the north to the tip of the Baja peninsula. Missions were built throughout this region. Twenty-seven missions were built along the Baja California peninsula between 1697 and 1854 by members of three Catholic religious Orders. Alta California missions are located here.
