Gulf of Mexico - Placemark of Hydrate Sites

Interpretation of location of high backscatter on the GLORIA sidescan sonar imagery that, where ground-truth information is available, coincides with large seep, hardground, and/or hydrate sites. This interpretation was completed by the senior author based on integrating the GLORIA backscatter information with multibeam bathymetric data and published locations of seeps and hydrates (Booth and others, 1996; Kennicutt and others, 1988).
