It seems that sharp mountain peaks, such as the Matterhorn and Mount Everest, are rounded off and the stated elevation is significantly less than the true value. The rounding off is visible when you tilt and look horizontally. For example, for Everest the elevation given by GE is 8590 m, whereas the true value is 8850, an error of 260 m! The attachment shows Everest with a placemark that is extruded upward to the true (absolute) height of 8850m. Use tilt to get a horizontal view. Any comments from the GE experts?
