The metropolitan area surrounding and including Perth, Australia, is peppered with oval landforms similar in shape to the mysterious Carolina bays of the Southeast USA.



The attached keyhole file contains links to subset of about 40 overlays highlighting both dry structures as well as lakes. All the noted structures align roughly along a 162 SSE to NNW axis - except for the first one (the kml's snapshot view), which is Perth's most famous "Oval", and is dead-on an E-W axis.

Please toggle the overlay on and off to check the alignment of the overlay with the land surface. Some of these display the characteristic "white rim" or raised rim of a Carolina bay. (I wonder where "Bangup Lake" got its name?)
