you will need GEv4 to view this model.
texture over obscure objects ...
within SU you can right click on an image and explode it, it then becomes a texture,
from there you can trace out polygons and use the push / pull tool to extrude, use freehand tool for tracing obscure outlines
also, after a circle, square, triangle etc is drawn you can right click on it and select explode. from that point you can use the move tool to relocate the vertex's
the placemark is of a nebula, freehand contours extruded with pushpull tool.
a circle extruded and then exploded and vertexes moved about.

these combined might be a lenghty process, but it is a thought

i would think you should also be able to draw a straight line across a polygon , right click on the line and select divide, then enter # of divisions you want to section the line into, then move the vertexes about
there is a tutorial at the SU website that utilizes a contour map as an example
for the placemark, move to the vertical (birds eye view and then zoom in and out, same from the sides this might give you other idea's for stretching
