Bannockburn, Ill.: This 3800 square foot Y-shaped Usonian was completed in 1960, a year after FLW died, and may be his final design. In 2001, the house barely escaped the wrecking ball when a potential buyer applied for a demolition permit so he could build a "McMansion" on the 4-acre site. Luckily, public outcry blocked the issue of the permit, and the buyer backed out of the deal. The home has since been sold to a new owner who seems to be interested in preservation.
