Right, the realtime tracking of the race on Google Earth is everybody wants, and I am frequently asked about it from TdF fans back in Japan...
I don't know Google Earth API should have some realtime feature, but I believe it has. Hope TdF 2006 is fully supported by those geographic technologies.

Could you point me any source info about the experiment in Stage 5?
