I found someone's mark at about 32.1535 N 110.8425 E asking what kind of plane was near that mark. The shape is pretty unique - I'd recognise a Canberra bodytype just about anywhere. Actually finding the exact model/usage was a bit harder, and may still be inaccurate due to all the uses this rugged airframe was put to. I am using a scientific best-guess using basic wingspan and shape as a guide. Being that it is a unique item in this location, I felt that a description was necessary.
Marker name: "NASA WB-57 High-altitude research plane (modified Martin B-57 Canberra)"
I put this extra descritpion text in the marker:
"This plane was used for high-altutude research and experiments. The 'W' in 'WB-57' stands for 'Weather'.
http://www.nasa.gov/missions/research/b-57_feature.htmlThe original English Electric B-2 Canberra was the basis for the B-57, manufatured under license in the USA by Martin (later Martin-Marietta). This particular Canberra has extended wingspan for high altitude flying. Several variants, like this one, were manufactured over the years.
