A well known one around this area is the "ICI" spelt out in layout of Houses built by the Imperial Chemical Industries for their Workers in the 1920s/30s. These Houses were built forWorkers from the nearby Castner Kelner & Rocksavage Chemical plants situated alongside the Manchester Ship Canal at Runcorn in Cheshire.
Not quite visible from space but clear from a plane.
