A simple model demonstrating terrain extrusion in GEv4. Created using Google SketchUp. 300k

It shows how the ability to use textured polygons opens up the possibility of superimposing realistic looking terrain models over existing Google Earth imagery. In this case, by simply using the existing terrain and imagery and moving it upwards.

The model is also related to this thread, about ways of using Google Earth to show subsurface features.

To create the model I used a saved jpeg image from Google Earth, and projected it, as a texture, onto the imported terrain (GE -> SU) of the same area. The only tricky part was lining up the texture accurately.
