Until now I had stopped posting giant slogans in China. There are too many of them. But this one is unique.
South of Gyegu, China, is a lake formed by a dam. The current photo was taken in the winter, the lake is frozen. Somebody has carved letters into the ice, the biggest ones are 50 m tall.
I can't make out the language. I think it might be Tibetan. But this is 25 km from the Tibet border, and the characters themselves have diacriticals (little extra marks above the characters) that I'm not sure are associated with the Tibetan script.
So, someone please find a linguist. I'd like to know what this says. If it's an official slogan, it might read "The Tibetian folk welcomes the Chinese and asks them to stay a bit longer". It would be hilarious, however, if it were a protest of some kind.
