United States Contaminated SitesThis is a national environmental sites layer. It shows about 120,000 contaminated sites in the United States out of an inventory of about 500,000 contaminated sites.
The coverage is US federal sites with state coverage in California, Oregon, Washington and New Jersey. More is being added all the time.
The sites are color coded -- red for sites where the clean-up has not been completed, yellow for those where cleanup is completed but there are long-term limitations on use of the site, and green where cleanup has been completed. When a cleanup is complete, it is likely that some contamination remains.
Within the placemark you will see a site name and a link to the environmental agencies. Some sites have multiple agency links. There is also a link to give comments or feedback on a particular contaminated site. For example the location may be off on the site, as the geographic accuracy of government websites can be in significant error. As you zoom, more sites will show.
To use the layer you will have to have the Google Earth Version 4 loaded. More explanations are available at our website at
Terradex.
