Here are some more sites I found in the same area. There are more yurts and herds of animals but also some more permanent settlements. There is also a very large area where the sand appears to have been 'combed' as if for farming although that hardly seems plausible.

By the way, have you seen The Story of the Weeping Camel? According to the offical webpage since 1990 some 25% of the population of Mongolia have moved off the land and settled in the capital Ulaan Baatar. This probably accounts for the large number of yurts that can be found there especially in the outlying (newer?) suburbs.
