Nicholson Map 6: Courcelette 15 September 1916
Map Upgraded October 15, 2007.

This is also described in Nicholson Chapter VI.
Nicholson Chapter VI: The Battles of the Somme, July-November 1916

Nicholson Map 6 is in fact a small area of the "The Battles of the Somme" as detailed in Map 5, so it raises overlay issues in Google Earth of layering a very small map over a large map and keeping the landmarks in place. I have done my best, but corrections are not only expected but welcome.

There are many experts on the Battle of Flers-Courcelette on the CEFSG (Canadian Expeditionary Force Study Group), so I will not go into great detail. If they wish to send a summary, I will post it here with the map.

Courcelette brought two of the Great War's technological innovations into use in one battle - the "Creeping Barrage" and the "Tank". Zero Hour for the battle was 0620 on September 15, 1916. Although the Germans were petrified, all 6 of the Canadian tanks were put out of service, with only 1 reaching it's objective.
