Hi svens,
thanks for your feedback! I also think your application is pretty neat, but somehow I don't like the ship from 3D warehouse (it's called Freedom of the Seas there, but doesn't resemble that ship at all IMHO). But that's a question of taste...
It would of course be great to have more models, so if anyone feels inclined to model "their" ship, they're free to send me the model and I will include it.
I guess there is still great potential for improved models. I must say I only invested one night (about 6 hrs) into learning how to use SketchUp (v5 then) and designing this ship from scratch. I experimented with using an image file as an overlay but then gave up since I could not make it fit the model.
How can you actually see the size of the model? Did you open it in a modelling application? What do you mean by "I reckon you should aim your model a bit more north."? The displayed models actually have the course of the real ship. The view which you fly to is not directly from the bow or stern, but 15 off to provide a better view of the whole ship.
The displayed times are indeed the local time (GMT+1) in order to indicate how current the position is, if the position is not calculated but actually gathered from the web.
Cheers
