Hi KenGrok, very good points you bring to our attention.

The majority of the posts submitted here because they are no longer relevant are generally re-located to the Archives Forum, in either the Places, or Discussions forums.

Some are simply re-located to appropriate forums.

This means that the post and placemark are kept together as a whole and available for review from the GEC forums. One can perform a search for any topic within the Archives, select a post and then open the placemark file in GE.

All that changes is the forum that the post is kept in and that the placemark is removed from the Community layers in GE.

There are occasions when a post is recognized as being updatable, and all attempts are then made to PM the original poster to prompt them to update the post.
If the poster has long gone and can't be contacted, the Moderators choose the best option for managing the post.
Quite often a post that is no longer relevant has remained in a thread and been noted as such to keep it and the thread in context.
Some times another member will recognize the fact that the post, or even the thread has become an orphan, and then adopts said post and with notation , continues it's development.

Your suggestion of adding a screenshot of placemarks to the posts before they become irrelevant is a good idea.
One would have to make the decision to do this well before the unknown imagery update was to occur though.

Update: Screen shots could still be added to the posts, but with the addition of the new "Historical Imagery" layer and "Time Slider" feature in GE, it is possible to view the original imagery that a post refers to.

In any case, the posts submitted here are not deleted, unless of course the poster themselves decide to do so.

Hope that gives you a better understanding of how things are managed here.
