Before 1989, the plant produced fertilizers, sulphuric acid, detergents and other chemicals. Acid rain was not unknown to this area of the country. Nowadays the site is a ruin and as it is constanly being dismantled by the inhabitants of the neighboring villages. The southern hill is said to be radioactive, an outdoor deposit of chemical waste.
